Given its inherent anti-oxidant effects, the cannabinoid cannabidiol (chemical compound CBD) is able to act as a natural neuroprotective agent that reduces oxidative stress and prevents neurodegradation. CBD also reduces oxidation-associated diseases like Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, gastric ulcers and CNS disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
Medical studies have demonstrated that CBD inhibits the production of glutamate, attenuating its toxicity, which in turn protects brain cells and reduces the risk of ischemic damage.
